Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, commonly known as Virginia Tech and by the initials VT and VPI, is a public, land-grant, research university with its main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. VAMC’s new name became Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute, which the general populace shortened to Virginia Polytechnic Institute, or simply VPI.With that new name in hand and aided by his son, John Jr., McBryde proceeded to develop a coat of arms, motto, and seal.In 2016, it was determined that a new brand was needed for the university.
