This scene was quite dark too - down a dark covered carpark alley.This crop is from the bottom of the frame, where you expect sharpness to drop off (away from the center) but the iPhone 5 has kept that poor little squashed Campos cup pretty darn sharp in what was very little available light.The jump up in quality from the 4S to the 5 isn't as great as the jump was from the 4 to 4S. I don't think it's a completely fair test. I think the reason they didn't mention a display upgrade is because there isn't one. With the 5.1 update, a camera icon now appears on the phone's lock screen.To get your iPhone in picture-taking mode, all you need to do is swipe the icon up, which reveals the image capture screen. The outdoor shot with the 4 & 4s was evidently taken several minutes before or after the others, as the clouds had moved. Consider a 2mp sensor the equal of a room with 2 windows in it.

If you have the iPhone 4S now, the upgrade to the 5 is small but probably worthwhile if you fancy yourself as a 'mobile photographer'.
Depth of Field is squished much smaller with the 100mm at 2.8/f with the same field of view. To begin, it offers better performance without a big battery life penalty.
As silly as it seems, I think Apple should add an option to shoot RAW. Of course it will be better than the generation before. Also I can distinguish better color saturation on the "S" that maybe helped by the higher resolution. Now, even though Apple didn't boast too much about how much better the camera is, they did say it has a new sensor with better HDR and low-light capabilities. I (and many others) found the 4 to be terrible – it didn't adjust the white balance properly which made everything look orange. my new 4S is definitely on par with the good quality compact point-and-shoot. It's a typically nifty Apple interface, but would it be too much to ask for a way to make it a little faster? these tests are arbitrary and cover the tiniest fraction of the criteria that you should use to evaluate the capacity of a camera.I don't know much about photography but I do notice that the clouds in the phone images and the clouds in the camera images are entirely different, as is the light from the sun. The 4S produced brighter and sharper photos. As with the flash in the previous model, results vary dramatically: sometimes the flash blows out highlights on the edges of a photo while casting harsh light on my subject and other times it's too center focused, with the edges of a photo falling off into a vignette.
