Joyce Kozloff (born 1942) is an American artist whose politically engaged work has been based on cartography since the early 1990s. His father, Jacob Blumberg, was born of Lithuanian descent in New York City (1880–1955) and his mother, Fannie Joseph (1891–1966), was born in Vilna, Lithuania. Joyce Kozloff is an American artist commonly associated with the Pattern and Decoration movement of the 1970s and, since the early 1990s, with cartographic art. Joyce Kozloff is an artist who was a leader of the Pattern and Decoration movement and was involved in the feminist art movement, both of which took place during the 1970s. Max Kozloff comes from an atheist background; neither Joyce, Max nor Nikolas are observant or religious, but consider themselves Jewish in a cultural and social sense. Decoration humanizes our living and working spaces. Artist: Max Kozloff American, born 1933. in 1964 and gained an M.F.A. in 1967 from Columbia University in New York. My own art was in flux, as I began to look at women’s traditional arts as a source and inspiration. By 1979, she began concentrating on the field of public art, both to expand the scale of her installations and increase their accessibility to a wider audience.Since that time, Kozloff has executed a number of major commissions in public spaces. During her yearlong residency abroad Kozloff conceived and completed a series of twenty-four collaged drawings based on maps, diagrams and illustrations of historic battles, which examine the fascination shared by many young boys for war.

Her commitment to the revival of ornamentalism as a source for feminist art, plus her knowledge of art history and culture of Eastern and Western civilizations, place Kozloff among America’s more original and engaging artists.Born in Somerville, New Jersey on December 14, 1942, Joyce Blumberg Kozloff comes from a Jewish heritage of Lithuanian descent.
